What has changed for energy-related
products to be sold in Europe?

The regulation (EU) 2017/1369 of the European Parliament and Council of July 4, 2017 lays down a new framework for energy labeling, which repeals Directive 2010/30 / EU
These new EU law requirements apply directly in all EU member states.

The new regulation also mandates the creation of a central database in which the data on energy-related products, such as household appliances or lighting products, is to be recorded for sales within the European Union.

This regulation applies from 1st of September 2021.

A new database called "EPREL"

In order to comply with the new regulation, the EU Commission created
an online-accessible registration database called EPREL:
EU Product Registration database for Energy Labelling”.

Public part of the data base:

This database enables customers and users to obtain information on energy-related products by free access for everyone

to product data sheets

and energy labels.

Non-public part of the data base:

In addition, it serves to support the market surveillance authorities and enables the European Commission and the member states to obtain an overview of the market for future regulations.

Why EPREL database?

Be a contact point and an information tool for consumers to be able to compare the data of energy- related products.

Provide distributors with an alternative means of obtaining the product data sheets for the products they sell.

Make it easier for countries to comply with the regulations as part of market surveillance.

Provide market data necessary for the legislative process to revise product- specific labels and data sheets.

What does the new registration
requirement mean for you?

Since September 1st, 2020, affected energy related products must be registered in the EPREL database before placing them on the European market.
Both manufacturers and importers are subject to registration.

Only companies based in Europe are allowed to enter the required data into the European data base EPREL.

Companies that are not based in the EU cannot register themselves in the EPREL product database, but need an authorized representative, based in the European Union.
